Hi John,

What do you enjoy? Do you collect sets, do you build your own MOCs, do you enjoy trains or mechanisms, do you like space/castle/Star Wars, etc?

Who gets the brick after the event? If WAMALUG is providing brick/MOCs, what kind of security will there be?

Got it. I just sent a message to Heather, asking to coordinate a call early this week. I suggested meeting via Zoom to enable some of our interested members to participate.

The main questions that I’d like to start with are:

- What are they wanting to build? A model of the Watergate itself, or something more holiday-themed?
- When do they want it completed?
- What is their budget?

What other questions should we address at the first meeting?

I agree - interesting idea, but I would need more information.
Short notice to build something "new" if they are looking for a particular theme.

Sounds good to me if you want to head this up. I'm happy to participate, just need to know what their expectations are and what they want displayed. I remember Alamo Drafthouse contacted us when the hobbit movie came out and wanted something huge and offered next to nothing in compensation. We said no.

The idea sounds interesting, but I’d be concerned about when they’d want this to be at the Watergate, how much time the project would take, and if their budget is reasonable for what they want.

If anyone is planning to have a call with them, I’d be willing to sit in on the call, just to help with planning and managing expectations.   I’m definitely not one of the most experienced LUG members in this group, but I do a lot of project management in my civilian job, and can at least help ask the right questions.

Hi Wamalug!

We work with the famed Watergate Hotel in DC.  We are interested in building an over-the-top lego installation for the holiday season, so of course, we wanted to see if we can partner with the experts in your group to make it happen!

Could we set up a time to chat soon?

Warm regards,
Heather

I might wear a costume-hoodie.  Maybe not a Star Wars one, given the 501st will be there.  It has a tendency to get hot in the museum (by my body thermostat, anyway) and I've suffered in a costume there before.

Air and Scare Attendees:

I have the arrival/parking/etc info from the museum.  Please see below.  Note, our area is inside.  If you're bringing kids, and did not get tickets for them, it sounds like they'll be able to do the inside the museum activities, but not outdoor.

We are allowed to enter and setup as early as 8am.  I plan to arrive between 9 and 9:30, as I have a long drive to get there.  I'm just bringing a few small things to fill gaps in the display.

The "Brick pit" area for the play brick is marked as number one on the interior map.  Our display area is number 2.

We will be set up inside the museum this year (the event is hybrid indoor/outdoor).  The museum requests that we limit our display models to halloween or museum related topics (basically what they said last year, too).

The museum also requests that we bring back the brick pit.

Please let me know if you plan to attend.  If so, please let me know what you intend to display (approximately), about how much space it needs, and if you intend to stay for the full duration.  Also, if you'll be attending and have club brick, please let me know, and let me know if you can bring it to the event.

Related, the museum is also looking for volunteers to help out with various other activities that day.  If anyone is interested in doing that, let me know, and I'll get you more info.

Thanks!
